  1. a family favorite:

    FRUIT AMBROSIA

    2 c. heavy whipping cream

    1/2 c. sugar

    1 tsp. vanilla extract

    1/2 tsp. almond extract

    1 large can mandarin oranges, drained

    2 cans fruit cocktail, drained

    3-5 c. miniature marshmellows

    Beat cream with extracts & sugar until very stiff peaks.  Fold in fruit & marshmellows ..... chill

    Fresh (sliced and crushed to juice them up) or frozen strawberries

    Non fat cool whip

    Angel food cake

    Drained canned pineapple

    Bananas - 2-4

    Break the cake into pieces and add and mix the remaining ingredients

    make  right before serving...  Cool and delightful AND delicious plus it is NOT FATTENING.

  7. take something that you think no one else would being to liven up the party , a dessert like pineapple pistacchio salad , it is a cooling dish and would counter the bbq flavor and give a little tang  as well.

  8. I once made a Chicken Asian Salad and it was the biggest hit, it's out of the ordinary and tastes wonderful with anything else they may be serving.

  9. Cantalope and Cucumber Salad

    1/2 cup yogurt, preferably Greek-style

    2 tablespoons lime juice

    1 tablespoon honey

    1 cantaloupe, cut into bite-size pieces

    2 kirby cucumbers, peeled and thinly sliced

    2 ribs celery, thinly sliced

    2 teaspoons chopped fresh mint

    1/3 cup sliced almonds, toasted

    In a large serving bowl, whisk together the yogurt, lime juice and honey. Add the cantaloupe, cucumbers, celery and mint to the dressing; toss to combine. Sprinkle with the toasted almonds.
