Question:

What should I not be doing at the gym when I'm pregnant?

I just started my 2nd trimester and my HG (severe morning sickness, emphasis on the severe) is lightening up a bit. After three months of h**l, I have less muscle tone and I still managed to gain weight (when I could eat, all I could eat were plain english muffins and butter- not so good for the hips.)

Anyway I want to exercise! Can I do pilates classes? Aerobic dance? Free weights? (light) Can I run on the treadmill? (my favorite) Can I do sit ups? Elliptical?

Thanks :)

  1. i suggest just go for a walk more often and you can engage in the light aerobic exercise nothing extreme. Look at the exercises for pregnant women to get an idea what it should look like.

  2. I had a trainer through my whole pregnancy until i had to stop going at 8 months, and she helped me a lot. You can lift but not more then twenty, but most the time i only did 5 to 10pounds to be safe. You can walk on the treadmill, don't run you don't want your blood pressure to go out. If your face gets really red take a break. Drink A LOTTT of water while working out. I didn't do any Belly things since all those muscles are stretched. Mostly i did lunges and walked and the bike until my belly got in the way. The trainer went over arm things i could do and leg things. You can ask some one there to talk to if you need to I am sure they will give you a little help on things you can do! Going really keeps you fit while  your preganat. :) have fun!

  3. you really just have to be careful how much you lift and make sure you keep yourself hydrated. you should be fine just don't over do i t...

  4. As an avid runner/ exerciser that wants kids, I have done some research about this. If you did all of the above BEFORE being pregnant, you can do it now that you are. Obviously ask your Dr. but from what I've read, many exercises are safe, as long as you did them pre-pregnancy. Exercises to avoid are jarring to bouncing activities or things that cause bumps and stuff (contact sports). I plan to avoid running during the first trimester, I'll do the elliptical though. Swimming is also a GREAT one. I also plan on trying to keep my heart rate below 160 (I have a heart monitor). Everything you listed sounds good, except maybe the treadmill, some people have very heavy feet on the treadmill and do hit the belt with heavy force. talk to your Doc...seems okay though.

  5. My doc told me I could do anything I wanted to during pregnancy until I got uncomfortable Your body will tell you when its had enough!

I wish I had the same gusto you do! I took pilates 3-5 days a week until the all day sickness started All i could keep down was bread & butter, just like you After nearly 4 months of that luckily I didnt do any permanent damage, but pilates hasnt seen me since lol

  6. My doctor told me not to lift more then 10 lbs. and to not do any exercise that works your abdominal muscles. I was told I could do a light jog for about 15 minutes. I know some pregnant woman who do yoga and pilates, but they just adapt the routine so they are not doing anything harmful. I know they sell DVD's. I would consult your doctor though. Everybody is different. Congrats!!!

  7. you should not strain yourself too much but you have the right idea in mind to stay fit. do light weights  and the treadmill, but not jogging, fast paced running. don't use the bike but yoga and light pilates are great. using the thigh weight machines are fine but for any machine you use make sure the weight amount is lighter than you would usually set it.

    hope this helps

also i forgot that sit ups probably are not best, but you could do 2 sets of, lets say, 20 cruches and seperate them a bit. (time wise i mean.)
