I'm from the US, and this is my first time travelling overseas. I'm going with a group from my school. What should I take?

  1. I assume you meant to ask about appropriate clothing, but I'll suggest a few other items as well.  When traveling to those three locations, be sure to bring a small umbrella (preferably one small enough to fit into a carry-around bag such as a purse, backpack, or satchel).  Also, instead of packing a big, heavy coat, try thinking in layers as all of the four seasons can happen in one day in that part of the world.  Bring light t-shirts, polo tops or sweaters, and a jacket (either cotton or a wind-breaker).  I would also suggest you bring a comfortable pair of walking shoes.  Too many tourists pack their most fashionable shoes thinking that they'll fit right in with the "fashion arena of the world," but in reality, you will be far more able to appreciate your experience without having to think about your aching feet!  Contrary to public opinion, no one will be looking at your shoes; that is, unless you go out for a pint - bring a sophisticated/funky/fresh/fun outfit or two for your evenings!

Other tips I would suggest are the following:

-if you are able to, pack a smaller luggage case with your belongings and then pack that case into a slightly bit bigger one.  This usually works well if you have a luggage set.  If you don't, you have a year to scope out after-Christmas sales and get a cute set DIRT cheap.  I would recommend packing a smaller suitcase into a bigger one so you have room to bring plenty of goodies back and you don't have to strain the zippers on your cases.

-be sure to bring a camera with extra film (if it isn't digital; if it is, bring a disposable one, too) AND extra batteries.

-bring enough money to buy yourself something memorable that others will question where you bought it!  This may sound a bit showy, but seriously, I would recommend enough money to buy the coolest top, the sleekest shoes, or the funkiest toy that you can show others just before you segway into bragging about your trip without sounding stuck-up.

-an international phone card (to call your parents/guardians for more money...)

-candy/snackbars - I would bring a few of these and pack one into your bag everyday just in case...

    -a travel-size anti-bacterial lotion (no water required)

That's all I can think of for now.  I went to Paris on Spring Break two years ago and had the time of my life.  The suggestions I gave you were things I did (or wished I had done) while I was there!  Don't be afraid to ask for directions, and don't be afraid to visit a pub or a disco/club and make some friends!  Maybe if you meet someone new they can suggest something they enjoy there as well!

    Have a fantastic trip!
