  1. If you're applying for a job you shouldn't go in smelling like you need a shower, or dressed like you're about to go trick or treating. Don't go job hunting in a tux, but don't also go in the clothes you wore when you painted your house last weekend.

As for getting the application, look for help wanted signs. If you see none, ask if the store is accepting applications for open positions. Would you hire someone who moseyed into your store and said "got any jobs I can have?" Or would you hire someone who seems like a bright educated person?

If it's your first job, then you don't really have anything to put on a resume. Unless you're applying for some corporate job or something that requires a few years of college/special skills you should be fine without a resume.

Lastly, if you need your parents to give you a ride to look for jobs then go ahead, but don't have them go ask the manager for the application. Taking your parents can show that you aren't ready to be self reliant. The manager doesn't want your parents going to complain to him because someone is making your life hard at your job. They may also think you'll need your hand held for simple tasks. If your parents know the manager though, then sure take them in with you. He might hire you on the spot without an official interview.

A few things to remember, for pay expected always put "Open" or "Negotiable". The boss might have wanted to start you at $10 an hour, but you put minimum wage, so you'll lose some money there. The second thing is for "time able start working". Don't put todays date, he may have liked your application so much he'll have you start on the spot. Lastly, don't scratch stuff out, most employers flip through the applications first and throw away any that have words scratched out. Use white out, or don't make mistakes to ensure your application is reviewed.

    GL in your job hunting.
