What should I say when a man who is not my husband gives me a compliment about my appearance?

Compliments are gifts but I don't want to give any one the wrong idea. I lived a very sheltered life before I was married and don't know how to handle situations like these without overreacting or hurting any ones feelings. What is the best thing to say/do?

A simple "thank you" would suffice.  You don't have to follow it up with anything else.

I have fancied one or two married women enormously. I ended up being just as good friends with their husbands, and found myself relating to them as a couple.  Not at any time did I have any wish to break up their marriage.

Once I found this very beautiful Hungarian women in a campsite, and we hit it off straight away.  I invited her to a meal, which she accepted on condition that she brought her husband along.  Doh!  We had a great time though, even if I didn't get the girl.

say thank you and love every minute of it.  just don't act upon it or taunt your husband about it. If he keeps doing it, say something about your husband, and he'll get the point.

Your questions is completely vague.  What kind of gift are you talking about?  A birthday coffee mug from an employee  or a lingerie set from the guy next door?  this question as is is not clear enough to answer .

If it's just a compliment like " i really like your outfit".  "Your new hairstyle looks amazing".. take it and run with it, but if it is excessive.. lets say daily you may wish to let know you are married and your husband likes your outfit and hair as well.

You should consider yourself lucky, in this day and age, there are very few compliments given anymore, all anyone cares about anymore this themselves.
