Before you say it I know it's up to me and stuff

I got my highest grades in English, English Lit, History, Spanish, D&T, R.E., Science and Additional Science - the rest were B's and a C.

I've enrolled at college and said I'm going to take English Lit, History, Psychology, Biology and Critical Thinking (it was either that or a 5th subject but I don't want to spread myself too thinly), but since I got an A in Spanish I was wondering whether I should take that instead of Biology, or Philosophy which I was going to do anyway!

Informed opinions please?!!

  1. In my opinion, Spanish is more useful of a subject than Philosophy. I wouldn't drop Biology, because some sort of biology or anatomy course is often needed for many majors.

So, unless you think you need Philosophy to advance a career you're thinking of having, I would switch it to Spanish.

Multi-lingual people usually make more money in the career field anyway.

  2. Take biology. Biology along with the other sciences and mathematics are highly regarded among pretty much all universities.

But it all comes down to what you want to do. Im choosing my A-Levels at the minute but im working backwards; finding a career im interested in, see what degree I need, looking at the entry requirements for that course at different universities and basing my options on that. Its the best way really.

A language will always be helpful, philosohpy isnt regarded very highly at all and is seen like a bit of a "mickey-mouse" subject.

  3. Don't take Physcology its a waste of time, and decent Uni's barley accept it as an A-Level. I know that's not the PC thing to say, but you should no the truth. Take Spanish. Don't drop Biology, you'll regret it in the long run.

  5. I would recommend you drop Psychology and do Spanish instead.

Another language is going to be a lot more useful than Psychology when you are applying for jobs and biology is also more useful than Psychology.

  6. Im going to take spanish for A Level.. i think that for many jobs they appreciate it if you can speak another language but its obviously up to you but i would take it instead of philosophy and keep biology if you were going to:)

    Congratulations

  7. If you want to go to university and don't know what you want to do afterwards, then pick the three subjects you are best at. It's the grades that matter - the A level subjects and degree subjects are irrelevant unless you are angling for a specific type of job.

If you do have a particular university course or profession in mind, then come back with that info and we can have a re-think.
