I iniially wanted to be an anthropolgy professor, but I found out that there isn't vacancies around there. I love languages especially french, but I'm not sure about being a professor in it. What should I think of being a professor in, instead of anthropology, I don't want to waste 8 years getting all my degrees, and not getting a job. Thanks in advance to everyone's answers

  1. Where are you in school?  High school?  If you want to teach at the university level, you have a lot of time to decide.  Often, you can get a PhD in a different field.  The first two years of UG are generally general-education courses, so you have time to explore different areas to see what you like.  Languages are good, but you also need to love literature, history and other areas if you go for a PhD.  There are anthropology faculty positions, but you may not be going exactly where you would like, or teaching in your specialty.  It is important no matter the field to have a lot of teaching and research experience gained while doing your PhD (and masters) in order to be the most competitive.

  2. There is a shortage of business professors right now.  If you want a job as a professor, I would go for a PhD in Business.

  3. Usually, whatever you receive your Ph.D in is the area/field of study that you will teach.  If you're not even sure what it is you want to major in during undergrad, then you're not even ready to be considering what to teach as a professor.  You've gotten way too far ahead of yourself!

  4. Sociology studying people will never get boring and there is always a building to hang your shingle on to counsel the loonies.
