Question:

What should I try after a Gewurztraminer ?

I started getting into wines about a year ago, when I turned 21. Good wines, not 2-buck chuck. I really like wine, and want to learn about it as well as drink it, but, being only 22 years old, I have a very young palette. I don't much like red wines; I prefer sweet, white wines. As such, I started out drinking muscat, then moved on to riesling, and now gewurztaminer. As each has become too sweet, I move on to a drier wine. Well, the gewurztaminer is starting to go the way of the muscat: too sweet to drink regularly. What is the next sweetest white wine that I should try?

Thanks!

  1. Well I'm not an expert but I would suggest you try a nice fruity Moselle, that's actually my favorite.

  2. Try a Pino Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc!

  3. Try a Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. Monkey Bay is awesome for a good price and Highfield is amazing but quite pricy.

  4. Try Annie Greensprings pink? I think not!

Your taste buds are growing. Sure, you can do the Sav Blanc thing. Or Chards with their secondary malolactic fermentation, "rich and buttery" they say. Feh! (Go ahead, Y! police - give me another violation! I say Feh! to them, too!)

Why not just evolve an octave and drink grown up RED wines.

Go ahead, you've developed buds a bit! Merlots are very popular now and are known to be 'entry level' red wines. Cabernets are great, but my favorites are Zinfandels.

    Loverly!
