  1. Porcelain is the better choice for all reasons. If you anticipate slipping being a problem, ask your dealer to recommend a nonslip tile. Porcelain is the longer wearing of the 2 choices. Also you do not have to seal it.

  2. porcelain is more suited for indoors.  it's a more durable tile, and if it's an unglazed tile, it's virtually non-slip, easy to clean.  if installed correctly, there shouldn't be a problem with moisture or water affecting the performance.  terracotta tile reminds me of what would be used on an outside deck or in a sun room in arizona or mexico.  tougher maintenance.  looks great for a couple years, then tougher to keep clean, as most terracotta (or saltillo types) need to be sealed to prevent stains or water or grease penetrating through the tiles.  a simple unglazed type of ceramic tile would be sufficient in a kitchen if cost is a factor (most ceramics are less expensive than porcelain) and if installed correctly, are just as durable and long lasting as the porcelain.  remember to seal your grout joints with a penetrating sealer to protect against stains.  good luck!

  3. i have just removed my terracotta kitchen floor. Not for moisture issues but for the fact that over time, It no longer looked clean no matter what I did and it really made the room look dark.
