What should I use to keep a mini fridge that stores medicine running during a power outage? Would a UPS work?

  1. Yes... if you have the money to pay for one. You can also get an Inverter that changes DC current into AC current. You just need to make sure it is bigger enough to power your fridge.

    A small generator is your best buy....one big enough to run the fridge and couple of lights in the house while the power is out.

A UPS would work for a mini fridge (counter top size refrigerator).  Remember a refrigerator does not run continuously like a computer does.  You will need to know how much current the refrigerator uses and long it remains on to keep the temperature setting during lets say 4 hour period and them you will have decide how long you would want the refrigerator to maintain the temperature if power went out for 1 day, 2 days, etc...  Keep in mind that the temperature of your house/apartment etc. , especially when it is hot, will effect this somewhat.  Buy the UPS with highest VA (voltage amps) you can afford based on the information you collect.
