To fully answer my question, I need a list of objects needed:

Plywood, glue, nails etc

And a list of tools needed:

Hammer, drill etc...

I want the vivarium to have a lift off top with hinges and a transparent plastic sheet on the front to act as a window.

please note: THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE MY SNAKES VIVARIUM, JUST A PLAY AREA THAT COULD BE PLACED OUTSIDE UNDER SUPERVISION SO THAT THE SNAKE CAN BASK.

This is a school holiday project.

  1. first off i have to agree, the snake doesnt need a outdoor enclosure to "bask". but if your really set upon making one; here's what i would do, first off, dont use plywood, the chemicals used in making it can and will effect your snake.here is a list of what you'll need, and you can pick this up at lowe's or home depot;marlite, they will cut it to size there you'll need to let them know the size you want it.two 1x4two 1x2and a small roll of mesh since you've got the proper tools, laying the marlite on the floor, line the 1x4 up with the outside edge, and make a groove for it, then drill holes for screws along the edge of it. From here, attach the 1x2's to each corner, and then simply measure out your mesh and attach it using a staple gun instead of glue. Finally, you'll measure out a small door and attach it using small hinges from lowes or home depot.

this is a very light cage that can be taken in and out of the house easily. hope i helped abit!

  2. No offense but a 50 CM Corn Snake is hardly an infant. My male is that at nearly a year.

Again, no offense, why not just a 20 gal. aquarium, with a screen lid?

Beyond that, they do not need to "bask" in a strict sense, keeping the indoor cage near a window that gets Sun, is all the HEAT they need. In fact a cool off rock is far more important. A "Corns" tolerance range is pretty wide, and since their bodies are at ambient temps all the time, they are more in need of shelter, something to climb, a secure lid, water, and a slab of tile for a cooling stone.

In any case this could be extremely simple. BUY a Clear plastic storage box with a snap on lid, use Duct tape, Gaffers tape along one long side as a hinge. Poke/Drill holes in the lid for ventilation. Done deal.

    Just my two "sense"
