Question:

What should I use to rid my house of fleas?

My two dogs have gotten their first fleas of the season and before I could even get to the vet and get their medication... I suddenly have fleas all over my house. It's AWFUL.

I wasn't sure whether to just fog my house or to just go ahead and hire an exterminator, but I finally decided to try fogging first.

Can anyone recommend a good fogger to use to get rid of fleas? Or have any other ideas on how to rid my house of these nasty bugs?

Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I had the same problem and called the company (a very reputable one) who makes the flea medication.

I was told that if I use the medication on a monthly basis, that the fleas will eventualy all die.

It takes a couple of months, but worked for me.

I didn't have to bomb the house with chemicals.

    I did wash all bedding.

    Fleas are gone completely :)

  2. Small world,

Go ahead with the fogger, dad's tried it 3x and it didn't work.

Sounds like you have the same problem as I do. You should pick up everything off the floors in your house and sprinkle the grounds w/ diatomaceous earth (DE) found in nurseries (call to check).

leave it on for a day and vacuum it or mop it off. The thing is though that it's bad on hardwood flooring wonderful on most carpets. You have to get a really GREAT vacuum to take it off. A little dust doesn't hurt anyone and it's beneficial against another possible infestation, but if you love a clean house, just get a superior vacuum.

You may have to repeat this process again after another 2 days.

So far it's working out for me, I'm doing it again today.

I found the biggest culprit: the nasty b@st@rds come from outside the house. My mother's window screen fell down, and I discovered that the infestation was coming from OUTSIDE the house!!! Treat your yard as well.

One man suggested the treatment 30$ called 'Conquer' when I posed this same question.

I need to treat my yard, and so do you. It's better than waiting another month to get an expensive exterminator w/ chemicals that could harm your pets. Not to mention the annoying contract.

Carpet cleaning is another option. I plan to do that next month.

So far the DE is working excellent, but persistence will be rewarded.
