Question:

What should I wear in Ottawa during August-September

I am going to Ottawa for studies. Instead of taking my wardrobe with me, I will take just a couple of clothes for the first week and then buy the appropriate stuff. Anyway, I was wondering what should I take with me. I have been told that this time of the year people wear t-shirts and shorts.. Does it rain? Should I take a coat? Something warm?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Normal summer clothes are fine, it can be hot during these months or a bit cool...especially in the evenings and overnight.  Definitely bring something warm like a light sweater/fall jacket combo, but you won't need to wear it much of the time.

  2. the end of Aug - early Sept sometimes can actually be pretty hot. Anywhere from 20 - 30 Celsius

but sometimes at night it can cool down and you might need a light sweater, jeans etc.

It usually begins to cool down end of Sept or Oct... but you never really know with the weather lately :)

  3. Definitely bring a coat, because you will need it at night and maybe even during the day in September. Otherwise though it is still quite warm here at that time, so shorts would be fine and even jeans in September. You might just be more comfortable in jeans in September, because the wind may start to pick up a bit. It doesn't rain an abnormal amount at that time of the year, so a light jacket should protect you just fine from any rain. As for shirts, t-shirts will be absolutely fine for August and even September, its only after that that temperatures start to drop. But to be on the safe side buy some light sweaters (zippies) in case there is the odd colder day. I hope this helps, just remember that August is still summer for us here and September isn't that much different. I really hope this helps you and that you enjoy your time in Ottawa; good luck with your studies.
