What should I wear to a second interview?

I interviewed at a rheumatology office for the position of records clerk (which I was way under qualified for) the other day. When I arrived, they offered me a different position as a research assistant. I wore a brown suit with very faint coral pin stripes, with 3/4 sleeves, and the pants were knee length with brown pumps, and my shirt underneath matched the color of the pinstripe. The woman I first interviewed with (I am assuming from HR) had on slacks, and a blue and white polka-dot collared shirt. I met with two of the four RN'S that I will be working under, and one had cotton pants, and a white tshirt, the other had on flip flops. They invited me back for a follow up, and the HR lady said..."not an interview really, just to meet with the rest of the team and have a conversation to see that you all mesh well."

What should I wear? I have a brown and cream pencil skirt with a cream faux wrap sweater, and the same brown pumps. It looks polished, and professional, but I am afraid that I should be wearing another suit, or a blazer, at least.

  1. It doesnt matter what the people that are already working there are wearing, never take that as advice on what you should wear to an interview. There already hired and your not. I would still wear something professional like as if your going to another interview unless told otherwise.

The pencil skirt sounds very nice....as long as the skirt is not too short. But I say wear that, that's still professional.

I wish you the best of luck!

  2. Slacks... and a collared shirt..... Conservative-look.... later, you can dress more casual... emulate the woman who intereviewed you... Keep it simple, yet business casual...

Where are you located?  Big city? Small town?

  3. Always dress as if you want the job, I would go with pants and a blouse and some closed toed shoes. Do not dress down, but don't OVER dress either. Black is always safe.

  4. You really don't need to wear a suit.  The image you are trying to project is polished and I think a skirt, or slacks with a nice conservative blouse would be fine.

Be mindful of jewelry.  If you're wearing earrings a simple pearl is good.  Try to stay away from dangling earrings, long chains, or bracelets (bangles).

    Congratulations on the second interview.

    Good Luck!
