I know some of you are thinking that I should have posted this in the "fashion" section, but I wanted answers from women who have been in this situation and this is my best bet.

I'm attending a dinner hosted by the Key Spouse Group. Its a dinner for all the families of deployed service members. I have NO idea what to wear. I thought maybe some jean capris and a nice top, but then I thought a simple dress would be better. I know its a silly thing to worry about, but this is my first event and I want to make a good first impression. What is the usual attire for sit-down dinner?

  1. Hey, I'm a Air Force spouse as well and I love attending these dinners when my husband is deployed. The last dinner I went to was a few months back when my husband was stationed in Iraq.  I stayed casual, but still nice. I wore straight black pants. Black seems to go with anything, and these particular pants were very relaxed which kept me more comfortable while we ate a really good meal, and played a few games.  The shirt was more dressy, but still casual.  If you have a Ross's where you live, I would recommend a simple outfit from there.

    Most important thing is to just have fun. Enjoy your time with the other spouses. It's really great that you are involving yourself with them while your spouse is away.  Good luck!

  2. no don't wear jeans, remember its better to be overdressed then underdressed, do you live in a warm area? you got it right when you said a simple dress with some nice heels or sandals

  3. If it's a Deployed spouses dinner, anything goes!  The point is for you to have a night out, hopefully have the kids entertained by someone else, and just relax!!

    So, yes, denim capris and a nice top would be fine.  We had ladies show up in everything from sweats to nice dresses.  We didn't really care what they wore, as long as they were enjoying the evening!

    If nothing else, talk to your key spouse or the Airman and Family Readiness Center.  They'll be able to help you out.

    Relax, be comfortable, and enjoy the company!!

    {{hugs!}}

  4. Best advice would come from your FRG or a neighbor who is going as well, but unless the invitation said formal you are safe with a nice simple dress.  You can never go wrong with clean and sharp in the military:)   Try to relax and have a nice time, you deserve to enjoy yourself.
