What should I wear to dinner on the formal night of a cruise?

I'm going on a 5-night cruise, so there will be one formal night.

This is my first time cruising, and I'm 17 years old. Could my knee-length prom dress be appropriate?

I have been on many cruises- almost anything is acceptable these days- people wear anything from church dress- to formal- to sundress.

In my opinion- it depends on what cruise line- carnival is pretty casual- others can be a little more dressy- don't worry too much about it- have fun.

I just got back from a Royal Caribbean cruise with my 17-year old daughter. People wear a wide variety of things, so as long as you don't go casual, you won't feel out of place. Anything that you would wear to a prom would absolutely be fine.
