What should I wear to my boss' wedding 9/27? It's kind of informal. Is a long black skirt OK?

it's in his parents' backyard at 2pm. She said it wasn't a big formal thing and to dress casually but that just feels wrong. I can pair the skirt with a dozen different kinds of tops. I just don't want to have to buy something new with my tight budget right now. Any ideas? I'm a plus size, and 35 years old, so nothing too trendy or I'll have to go shopping :(

I know it's tough on a tight budget, but as far as really looking your best...the long black skirt/shirt thing is not going to flatter you. It's going to say, "I don't really care how I look, don't look at me because I want to blend in the crowd".  A very long, solid skirt will also make you appear wider and shorter.

If you have any skirts or dresses which are A-line shaped, and the hem hits anywhere from the knees to a couple inches below the knees, that would be great.

Remember, the colors of a blouse and skirt do not have to match, they just have to "go" together. You can really mix up textures and colors, as long as it's all in the same "family".

If you wear anything with a pattern, be sure it's a large pattern...not a bunch of tiny things.

Also, wearing a rich saturated color or a nice bright color, either on the top or the bottom will actually look much better than black.

You can even do pants...some nice well-fitted slacks. Make sure they fit perfectly. They can be black, pin-stripe, brown, tan, white, grey, vaguely patterned, navy, etc...as long as they are tailor-fitted to your body. If you do pants, wear some nice heels and a pretty blouse. A blouse that's special, you know what I mean?

You should be just fine. I'm sure you'll have a great time whatever you end up wearing!
