Hello,

Italians are very trendy and always dress nicely.  Check out some fashion magazines before you go to see what is "in" at the time.  Wear trendy jeans and blouses, nice shoes, a nice bag or backpack (though I don't think backpacks are very safe for your things), and a cellphone (even if yours doesn't work, all Italians seem to have a cell phone in their hand)  Things that will give you away as a tourist will be white tennis shoes, flip-flops, wind suits, baggy T-shirts, gym shorts, etc...   Think of going to a trendy New York club, this is how you will want to dress for Italy.  Not the flashy, glittery things but the beautiful pants or skirts and tops.  But I must warn you, they will still know you are a tourist.  Try not to look like a clueless tourist.  Don't carry a camera around your neck everywhere you go (put it in a bag or pocket), don't walk around with a guidebook or a map and don't act like you don't know where you are or what is going on.  Walk with confidence even if you are only confident that you are lost.  This will help keep you from being a target for those who might try to take advantage of you.

I guess you can look up what hot in italy and once you go there go shopping so you wont look out of place. Have fun when you go!

just dresses that are appropriate for the season (is it summer there? Then nice dresses and flat shoes should suffice). Keep your camera in a purse or something as cameras around your neck and guidebooks in your hand are dead give aways! Haha!

No more khaki shorts and hiking boots with that weird floppy hat that most backpackers use (unless you want to look like a backpacker)

Best to ask what you shld not wear:

1. flip flops.

2. tennis shoes

3. men: Hawaii looking shirts

4. Women: short jeans pants

5. tank tops

What you shld wear:

1. linens vs cottons

2. light wool pants instead of Dockers (guys)

3. Comfy good looking shoe instead of Birkenstocks

4. Silk scarves, ties, pocket hankies, shirts (women)

5. Accessories: don't go out looking bland......
