I'm traveling to Italy this summer with my family, and I'm confused about what I should wear. I know there is no way to not look like a tourist, but i'd like to fit in as much as possible. Please help!

  1. Hello I live in Italy precisely in Genoa (Genoa), and I think I have understood your question, if you want to make a trip in the Alps my advice is to bring light clothes, but not too much, because the mountain is unpredictable, if you choose the plain is better than choose the clothes lighter because the plain is very humid and sometimes reach 40 ° C (104 ° F), the coast is very simple enough clothes usually go (taking into account that it is summer)

I hope to be helpful course you can not even follow my advice. Hello and Happy Journey!

    p.s.

    Sorry for my writing

  2. No need to wear heavily as it's in June. I have been there during that time. Just a t-shirt, sleeveless, and shorts will be all you need to take with you. Do carry a light jacket in case. Some buildings are ice-cold, and sometimes the weather may be cooler. But definitely wear comfy and light.

    Bon voyage!

  3. I would wear normal summer clothes...shorts and a t shirt or something along those lines...make sure they are cotton because that is very breathable and try to wear light, comfortable shoes because there are so many sites to see your feet will hurt walking to see them all!

  4. Hi Meg

It probably depends on where you are visiting in Northern Italy.

I live in Valle d'aosta which is in the alps north of turin. If you are venturing anywhere near the mountains you will need something warm for the evening. Even in the height of summer the evenings are still fresh. If you are staying around the cities then it is a lovely time to visit. General summer clothing is the way forward. Remember if you want to visit churches they will not let you in unless you are suitably dressed which may mean no shorts but you must have something to cover your shoulders. Always worth having a light jumper or wrap handy even a light pair of trousers.

Most Italians wouldn't walk round in shorts but opt for light trousers and a top but hey you are here on holiday.

Whatever you do don't forget the sunglasses they are like Italian uniform all year round haha.

I was in Pisa in 45 degree heat and the Italian business men were still fully suited with tie. Wear what you are comfortable in and keep it simple but stylish.

Hope it helps but most of all enjoy it. I love this country.

    Matt
