I'm trying to figure out what would be best to where at a clothing store interview at a mall. Should I go formal (dress shirt and tie), Semi-casual (khakis and polo), or just straight casual (jeans and graphic polo). Please leave some advice.

  1. You never want to wear a suit to an interview at a retail store so I say no on the formal outfit choice.  The main thing to remember is you want to look neat and polished.  Don't wear any jeans with rips or holes in them.  No t-shirts with a graphic print.  I recommend a dark rinse trouser jean with a button up shirt.  Khakis are a great option too.  And don't wear sandals.  Dress shoes are appropriate.  Above all, make sure you're comfortable in whatever you choose!  You want to feel confident, and your interviewer will be able to tell if you feel uncomfortable or not confident.

    Best of luck!

  2. You should wear you best suit. You are trying to convince your prospective employer that you are a professional; and your clothing helps make that first impression. And if you want to work in a clothing store, your outfit is just that much more important. Wearing casual clothes to the interview would be like someone trying to get a job as an accountant, but doesn't balance his checkbook.

  3. I was once told "I don't care if your interview is in a basement...always wear a suit".. I've kept that advice with me every since I heard it.

  4. semi casual, i guess or formal
