  1. Maturity is way more important than academics at 4 and 5 yr old level. Your child seems ready academically, but can he take a full day of school without a meltdown? Can he follow group directions? Is he fully potty trained? Will he miss the home/parent environment? Can he sit still and be on task for 30 minutes at a time, multiple times during the morning and afternoon? Can he raise his hand and wait his turn and not interrupt? All of these factors are just as crucial as academic achievement when considering if a child is ready for K. Your child sounds smart. If you are ready to send him and you think he is mature enough, then go ahead. Otherwise, there is nothing wrong in keeping him in preschool one more year.

  2. My friends mother is a kindergarten teacher. When I brought up that my son was soon going to preschool she told me this:

Preschool is the best place for your pre-k child.

The students that entered her classroom that had attended pre-k classes knew:

-The sounds and how to identify all 26 letters of the alphabet

-How to count to 30 or more

    -All shapes

    -All colors

-And interacted better in the classroom as it was nothing new to them.

  3. Details please? Do you mean what should they know before kinder?

  4. Need more info on this. Not sure what you want to know.

  5. If they are going in next year it will help to have them know colors and shapes and be able to draw each shape (or something close) Make a game of letting him/her pick the right crayon to draw a red circle etc.

Also they will need to know upper and lower case letter as well as how to spell their name and phone number, these however if they don't know coming in dont worry they will learn it by the end of the year.

  6. a 4 yr old cant go to kindergarten

  7. My son was going to be kept  back because he wasn't good at using scissors. Cutting out neatly is apparently very important.

  8. Thy should be able to color good enough. Know their easy pluses. Walk good; run well. Talk their heart out. Know their easy 1, 2, 3's.

  9. He should know how to spell his name . He should know parents names , last names and siblings ,if any. He should know his home address and phone number.By the end of kindergarten he should be reading spelled numbers, colors ,shapes, and one syllable words. He also would have to behave very well .I am sure that is he is very well behaved or he wouldn't know so much now. They tend to keep kids back because of behavioral problems too. .

  10. Wait until they are 5.  Before Kindergarten starts they should know their colors, shapes, letters, and be able to write their name.  By the end of the school year they should be reading and writing.
