  1. Make it easy for yourself, Kristin.  Remember what you needed on the first day of Grade 6?  Take that with you, and enough paper to write down all the things your teachers will tell you to get by the following day.  And don't forget to practice your spelling: online shorthand is not accepted in most schools.

  2. Make sure you have:

    -A large binder

-Lots of Pencils, pens (Black, blue and one red for marking)

-Pencil crayons (markers not allowed in most classes!)

    -Sharpener

-Calculator (Trust me, you'll need it!)

    -Ruler

    -Lots of lined paper

-Lock for locker (The best type to get is a combination lock, most schools don't allow key locks or the ones with little spinners for each number!)

    -Gym shorts, t-shirt, shoes

    -Scissors

Things you Might Need - but don't really NEED need them

-Sticky Notes (great for keeping notes on a test)

-Kleenex, hand sanitizer for locker (Trust me, these are awesome things to have in your locker! Get the small pocket-packs!)

-Mirror, bin, mini white erase board for locker (Keep track of homework etc)

Use stuff you find at home... LOADS cheaper. Most of the stuff you can find in junk drawers, and what you can't you can find for cheap.

Keep your subjects in duotangs - it really helps. I think most schools give out one for every subject. Don't just stuff it all into one big binder- I tried. Not fun!

Clean out your binder every now and then - trust me, at the end of the year I had enough spare paper to wallpaper my room!

ACTUALLY STUDY for your tests. Everyone in my class said they would have studied if they saw their marks afterward!!!

Write out a study guide. You learn what you teach to others, so pretend you're explaining it to a buddy who hasn't been to school for the past three weeks, and has to take the test anyways. Sounds silly, but it really helps.

Gr 7 is definitely a huge step from gr. 6 -- clean up your study habits or grade 7 and onward will STINK! Good luck in the new year... Have fun!!!

  4. Pencil (or pen) and paper will probably sufficient the first day.  You may or may not get your locker assignment the first day, so you don't want to bring EVERYTHING with you.  I know, since I am a teacher, that I give out locker assignments on the second day because our first day is only half a day.  Your teachers will tell you the first day what you will need for their classes, just write it down and be sure you have it for the second day.
