I live in a city with a population of approximately 60,000 and almost nobody has a job. Everyone is either recieving welfare, SSI, SSD, Social Security or various other forms of public assistance. Almost 1/3 of the city is made up of refugees and immigrants and they don't work because they hardly speak any English. There is a police force, mayor, fire dept. and some hospitals and grocery stores, schools, etc. but other than the majority of people don't have jobs (I would guess 90% of the city).

I don't think my city should technically be classified as a "city." A city implies that people work, pay taxes, participate in the community, etc. I think they should call my city something else, like, a domestic refugee center or a placement community for those recieving public assistance. They could still keep the original city name but I just think they should scrap the "city" status and slap some title on it, like: Pooptown U.S. Refugee & Government Subsidy District/Tract/Reservation..etc

  2. This is some thing I have never under stood,I was born and raise in now what is called the rust belt. About 35 north of pittsburgh pa.It was expected to get through high school and go to work in the mills. I however went into beer distribution, first on the truck , then lucky enough to become a sales rep. for Miller. Things were booming sales were absolutely fantastic. Then the lay offs began, there was no slow down, until the benefits started to run out. Then came wave upon wave of layoffs, and the people finally started seeing the writing on the wall. But the thought Of shutting down something so massive, that had been there for over75 years, was unbelieveable to many. Some of these mills ran for twenty miles long and several miles deep. But close they did ,and it wasnt just one it was truely like a stack of dominos suddenly thousands of people were out of work, with no hope of ever going back.the side small businesslasted a little longer 2 to 4 years on the high side . now comes the confusing part.NOBODY LEFT.I dont know if their family ties were that strong, fear of the unknown, they simply stayed and attemped to somehow eek out an existance.Well it wasent long before My turn came the owner sold th dealership, and the buyers had their own sales force. The first thing I did was to get to the libraryand find out what states close by had a growing factory number, cost of living and all the assoc. facts.
