What should a merman look like?

What do you think a merman or mermaid would look like? In my novel I wont say what the merman looks like (Hes drop dead gorgeous but he isnt perfect (which can be annoying) and hes not g*y, hes edgy lol) but my mermaids are pale skinned, long black hair, black nails, black fins, and black eyes. LOL

they sound kinda weird......make it short hair no coloured nails,the tail is fine though

They sound too dark and scary. Try more colorful colors.
