What should a person with no tennis apparel wear for tennis?

Question

I have no "tennis" clothes (ie. tennis skirts, dresses, tops, etc) and I have beginners tennis tomorrow. What should I wear?

Would basketball shorts be alright? soffes? Help!

hopefully your basketball shorts aren too long!! you need to run and stretch a lot.. and they definitely shouldn get in the way!

The best thing would be to wear a sweat shirt, or a sleeveless t shirt.. it should not be too loose and not too tight either.. coz your arms need some moving space.!!

wear any comfortable cotton shorts.. with deep pcokets.. the tennis balls should go in and come out easily through them.. do ensure that!!! else ul have a tough time during serve practice!!

Try n be dressed in white and preferably cotton!! white wil give you a good feel and generally tennis players wear white!! n u'l FEEL tat you here to play!! Multi coloured attires wil make u feel like a party animal!! (Also mebbe look like one :D)

A pair of socks..not ankle socks..!!!

and shoes..!!! if you are gonna play on clay.. ensure tat your sole is flat!! there shunt be too many projections on the underside!! it damages the court wen u slip n slide!!

sofees and a comfortable tee, but dont forget to wear tennis/rubber/running shoes. that's a must because some courts dont allow shoes like vans or chucks or anything with black soles which can make some skid marks on some types of courts

you can wear plain colored shorts and a T shirt or a sleeveless cotton shirt as long as it is comfortable with you.  basketball shorts are okay but some basketball shorts are long and sort of prevent you from moving freely so i suggest a short that is just above your knee line will be fine.

since you're a beginner, any comfortable rubber shoes would be fine.

Welcome to tennis, glad to hear the initiative.

If by soffes you mean those short shorts, then yes.  Those are a staple for the girls here in South Texas.  t-shirts  and athletic tanks are typical too.  I do recomend though that you invest in actual tennis-specific shoes, especially since the hard court is like sandpaper on your favorite pair.  tenniswarehouse.com has a good selection for reference, since you can purchase the same tennis shoes at your local athletic store such as Foot Locker or Academy.  Even though tennis shops and country club stores are choice carriers, I prefer a less snoody environment.

But to your clothes, think of what you would wear if you were to go jogging, its the same basic style.  Have fun.

Wear sweats, or shorts, and a t-shirt.  You won't be expected to wear actual tennis clothes I'm sure, especially in a beginning class.  Just make sure you wear proper tennis shoes though, if you have them.
