What should an animal care course teach?

We are in the process of setting up a very basic animal care and handling course at our rescue centre. It's going to be very informal for all animal lovers aged from 10 to adult, as much of a club as a class.

We've got a good idea of what we'll teach but thought I'd throw it open to the public and get your input as to what would be important stuff to cover.

A good start would be to educate penitential owners of matching a animal to their lifestyle and habits. Active people= active pets.

Stress the importance of basic training and exercise especially keeping all family members on the same page when it comes to behavioral problems. There's volumes to be said about one family member allowing bad behaviors and others not allowing it.
