  1. Vans as well as any vehicle, should be checked for fuel, air pressure, oil, water, lubricant in brake and power assist if required, then lights, indicators and general body work should be looked at to ensure you know where all dents and marks are so you are not accused of pranging the vehicle somewhere.

  2. Everything including the interior and the dashboard!

  3. If you do it properly, its quite a list

Check tyres for wear, cuts and pressure

Wheels for dented rims and loose nuts

Fluids - oil, radiator and washer water

    Screen chips

    Lights - all working correctly

    Mirrors - all there

And of course - check that loose nut behind the wheel!!

  4. VOSA may (and do) stop company vehicles at the roadside & ask the driver what checks are to be carried out as follows;

Condition & pressure of tyres (You must also know the legal minimum tread depth regulations for your vehicle & the correct tyre pressures or where to find the info)

The vehicle is taxed, MOT'd (where appropriate) and insured & the driver holds the correct class of licence (A big problem with young drivers as new licences only cover 3.5tonne GVW - long wheel base vans are generally 4tonne GVW.

Correct function of all lights & mirrors

Tightness of wheelnuts (vehicles over 3.5t must now be fitted with indicators on the nuts (Note this covers most LWB Transits, Mercs, VWs etc)

You must also know how to check oil & water (I've seen people with Transits stopped & not know how to open the bonnet - immediate prohibition of the driver to carry on his way)

You MUST know the GVW & GTW of your vehicle - an overloaded vehicle or combination will be stopped on the spot & the driver will be fined & get points on their licence

You must also produce vehicle log sheets if requested.

Note, it's the DRIVERS responsibility for these checks, not the company.

  5. as other answers....but also check that your correctally insured to drive....

  6. the employee lol watch out for diesel draining, uneven tyre wear also check tyre pressure and company vans are renowned for brake problems , its really how they are being driven i think , of course there is a more thorough weekly check , but for a daily check (as you asked in your question) i think that should be sufficent
