Question:

What should be done for soil pulling away from foundation?

i just moved in to my new house and i have a small backyard, along the house the soil is dry and pulling away from the foundation. What can i do? Will it do anything to the foundation when it rains? i live in Ohio, dry summer!

  1. We have a similar problem where I live in Texas.

    You need to water your yard around the foundation regularly.  If you can use your sprinkler system that one way of doing it.

    I also use a soaker hose in areas where my sprinkler system doesnt cover the foundation.  

    You need to do this until you get some regular rain.  Otherwise your foundation can move and crack and cause all sorts of problems wiht your home.


  2. You need to either turn on the sprinklers if you have any.  If not soaker hoses.  Don't spray water at the foundation, if it goes under it could cause damage.  The expansion and contraction of soil can damage the foundation.  I have a sprinker system and run it 15 to 20 minutes a week in order to keep the soil moist.  I don't care about the grass.
