You will get a bunch of recommendations here and they will all be good.  Personally I would go with a whiskey mixer.

Congrats on the b-day, I'm sure you'll have a good time.Be sure your pals get you guys a taxi as well.

Start strong then switch to beer towards the end (might help avoid sickness) The old liquor then beer addage is somewhat true as the more intoxicated you become, you tend to pound drinks.  If you are drinking 8oz drinks vs. 12 oz beers you are drinking more alcohol per volume.

Drink whatever is free.  Everyone likes free.
