  1. My wife and I teach at the same school (we were married before working together). There are also 2 sets of siblings that teach in our school. We go to parties or other social events with our colleagues and their spouces atleast once a month. In some schools, teachers never spend time together outside of work.

Teachers should have the same social relationships with colleagues as any other professional.

  2. If the teachers become friends, there is nothing wrong with that.  At the school where I teach when I was a first year teacher there were 5 other first year teachers that started that year with me.  We all became close with each other very quickly because we were all experiencing the same things that year.  3 of us went on vacation together over the summer.  Being friends also shows the students that their teachers get along and work well together.  It also helps the teachers put up a united front when dealing with students.

  3. Teachers are like any other professionals.  Some teachers are friends.  Some teachers are married.  Some teachers have no social relationship with their colleagues at all.  Teachers should be at least civil and professional and be treated in the same manner.  But, if a more social relationship occurs, there is nothing wrong with that.

  4. Professional, strictly professional, while at work.

Teachers also have a life after work, when they leave school, especially during summer and vacation.

Social relationships are developed outside of work.

Some schools I've been to, have TGIF's and end of year parties.  Spouses and significant others are often invited to those occasions.
