  1. 21 ounces is prob best

  2. Normally your breaking stick is a lot heavier than your regular shooting cue. The heavier the better in my opinion. I prefer 22 to 25oz. breaking cue.

  3. The theory behind a light cue providing more power is that the light cue will accelerate quicker and have more speed when it contacts the cue ball.  Many people have run tests and this theory has been proven.

There is one other thing that the tests don't take into account... the heavier cue is more stable.  If you have a great stroke and are super consistent, then the light cue may be for you.  If you find you miscue or are inconsistent, maybe try a heavier cue.

The only person who can answer your question is you.  Rack the balls and do 10 breaks with a light cue.  Then 10 with a heavy cue.  Which is more consistent?  Which one do you sink more balls with?  Try some more.  As your game improves maybe you can change weights.

One final thing... all these tips assume you want maximum power for your breaks...  Depending on the game and who you are playing, a softer break might be what you need.

  4. Try out different ounces and go with the one you feel most comfortable with

  5. Go a little heavier than your usual shooting stick ...

    Maybe 20 or 21.

  6. Between 22 and 26 Ounces because you want a heavy enough cue too fully scatter the balls.

  7. Usually about an oz. lighter than your playing cue. Typically this would be around 18-19oz. Tests have found that with a lighter cue a person is able to generate more cue speed, thus increasing cueball speed for a harder break. Best results were found to be in the 18.5 oz range.

  8. Please don't listen to anyone who tells you that you should use a heavy cue to break with, because they don't know what they are talking about.  The only way a heavy cue will help you is if you can generate enough speed behind it.  You want to use a cue you can get the most speed+weight with for a good break.  Just try different things until you find what works best for you.  Good luck, and keep rackn em up!
