  1. Find a reason to write that doesn't involve money.  Songs that have a purpose are the ones worth writing.

  2. Save money.

  3. Depends on what type of songwriter. If you want to be a typical songwriter that writes for a band, then know how to play guitar or piano or something like that and learn about poetry. It sounds dumb but poetry is the essence of lyrical songwriting.

Now if you want to compose for an orchestra or a symphonic band, then at least play an instrument from one of the two, learn music theory, learn how to conduct, and learn the C scale chords. Most music is based off of that specific chord.

  4. all you need is to know how to read and write, play at least one instrument, and have talent.

but i would also say that writing a song does not a songwriter make, so before you become a songwriter you need to write a bunch of songs. and you'll get better at it the more you make.

  5. Be older than 15 and get some life experience. We don't need anymore cheesy Miley Cyris music in the world.

  6. Learn how to rhyme, use a creative vocabulary and learn your timing in your song tight by getting a Metronome. Before I ever wrote my very first song lyrics in 1990.  I used to read the Dictionary and Thesaurus daily to brush up on my words...then I started writing poetry in the  mid 90s for even more experimentation with alliteration, acrostics, double - entrendes, rhyming, metaphors and etc. You see...because the more words you know at your disposal...the more fun it gets when writing songs.

Songs are nothing more than poetry set to music. It has to flow like water and be smooth on the ears. Hope this helps and good luck

  7. Learn how to play an instrument?
