I asked this before but am trying different category..

Ok, I don't like the current prices either!

But to be perfectly honest looking at it impartially they do seem about right. Consider the following:

1. Oil is a finite resource. There is less oil on earth today than at any point in human history, and there will be even less tomorrow.

2. Demand is going UP, with China and India taking a larger share.

3. The oil we do have left is harder to get at, and is lower quality (requiring more refining).

Now granted the oil companies are making WAAAAY too much money, and something needs to be done about that! But if gas were about $3.50 a gallon with less of it going to oil company profits and more going into stuff like

- Fixing our crumbling roads and bridges

- Exploration for new oil sources

- Improvements and expansion of refining capabilities.

- New technologies to replace oil. (it will, after all, be gone eventually)

What do you think it SHOULD cost and why?

  1. It costs 30 cents a liter in Iraq. I'd live with .78 a liter.

  2. I think we should stop spending money on  ways to get more oil and start putting money into things to replace it.  But that is kind of hard seeing as how most of our poloticians make too much money off of it.

    sorry for spelling mistakes

  3. 7.00 a gallon, i own iraq so im biased

  4. 19 cents per gallon.

  5. according to OPEC the cost of a barrel of oil should only be worth 26 dollars but you have speculators that drive up the price do you know that the big oil companies have 79% of the acreage along the coast and in the gulf but they want all of it that is roughly 41 million acres (79%) how is that fair do you know according to the latest figuers from the U.S. is that we have 54 billion barrels of oil that wont be released i say enough allready!!!!!

  6. I started driving back in 2003 and gas was a humble 1.65 a gallon.  I remember I was repulsed when I saw it at 1.70, so I would drive for half an hour to get it at 1.65. lol.  It is disgraceful what is happening now, but I am holding out hope that the oil companies are alienating themselves from other big industries that they are making enough enemies that there might be a change down the road.  Hope.

  7. $100 a gallon, and not a penny less. Less people would be able to pollute the atmosphere by drivig to their jobs, while simultaneously kneecapping rich people who kick poor people and steal groceries right out of their house! (of course, 99% of the price would be tax that would go toward something productive, like art therapy for the homeless).

  8. Whatever the market will bear.  If people are willing to pay $5.00 per gallon, that is what the price will be.

When the price gets to a point where significant amounts of buyers stop using the commodity, the price will stableize.

  9. no gas should cost by what kind of gas u use

  10. I just wish it would go back to the $2.30 / gal that it was when the Dems took control of Congress.

  11. A dollar, they already have enough of our money.

  12. until our species works off the source creator of the gas and oil (the sun), it does not matter how much it is. but gas is as much as it is right now for one reason.....it can be... scum of the earth dont get less scummy, they get more scummy. we should all absolutely imprison our government officials for building a society around one such commodity. and when they were warned of such things 50+ years agoand did not listen, and now look. how about now dumb asssses? mmmm?  just wait till i have a say... i will fix things for good.

  13. oil (more specifically, gas) should be made cost prohibitive to force the country and the world to drive electric cars and to generally force us to adapt cheaper long-run alternatives. but i'm not an environmentalist though.
