What should happen to looters?

I live in Oklahoma and the recent Tornadoes that went through killed seven people. The town of Picher, already falling apart from lead in the water from mining, was further devistated by almost total distruction. Then I hear of an elderly woman in the hospital having her grandson ,back from Iraq, go to where her home used to be to find anything that might be left that would be salvagable. Only to find that looters had got there first. They found the poor lady's purse and had taken every cent this woman had and then kindly zipped the purse back up for her. Probably so she wouldn't loose anything out of it! It was reported that six people have been arrested so far for looting at the site and this just makes me so angry that people could be so calous and mean to do this to people who have already lost everything!! This happens all the time at all kinds of disaster sites and I know what I would do to them but what would you do?

Criminals will exploit any situation that will provide a financial return for them . Looters are criminals and should be pursued with great urgency by the police and jailed for long prison terms if found guilty.

They should be shot.  People that do this are the scum of the earth.  There is no reason they should be left living.

Honestly, I think they should bring back the stocks, like in the olden days.  Take the looters to the middle of town, put them in the stocks (where their head and hands are restrained) and let the townspeople do whatever they want to them.  That's what I call poetic justice.  :)

Looters should be shot, period.

In a time of a disaster these people should be considered enemies of the state and executed when caught and sent off to the morgue. Americans have zero excuse for stealing another Americans property whether it is a business or personal property during a time of great distress for all.

The way I see it, there are two different kinds of looters in a disaster.  There are looters who only take things that are necessary for immediate survival, like food and medicine.  Then, there are looters who take valuables, such as money, jewelry and electronics, from people who have lost their homes.  I can condone the first kind of looting (which would probably save grocery stores the trouble of throwing spoiled food away later on) but the second kind is reprehensible.

I sincerely and firmly believe that anyone caught doing the second kind of looting, (which I believe is what you're talking about) should be shot on sight.  It sounds cruel and maybe to a degree, it is.  But people who steal from those who have lost everything solely to appease their own greed are among the lowest level of humanity.  They don't deserve to draw another breath.

The ONLY exception would be if they where scavenging for food or water.

Bring back public hangings.  I live in Palm Bay Fl. and since the fires started on Sunday, there have been looters sneaking in evacuated homes.  A news helicopter spotted on last night on the news and 4 people were taken into custody live on the air.  What some morons would do to people who are in the mist of losing everything.  I say hang them all and let people take back what was taken.
