  1. i think at around that age it would be large rats

  2. Get him on rats ASAP, they get harder to switch the longer they are on mice, and you would need quite a few mice to feed an adult royal.

But at that age I would say small weaner rats, or possibly a bit smaller. Is difficult to say because snakes grow at different rates, so giving us the size of the royal would be more helpful. =)

The food should leave a little bulge in him, but if it leaves a very large lump, he is regurging, or is getting a bit overweight, then it is too much.

  3. two adult mice every week should be good (if they are the extra large adult mice).  other than that a snake should get a rodent a little bit bigger than the thickest part of his body.  there should be a slight bump in the snake after he eats.  if you can get your royal eating the right size rats then he should be able to eat every 10 - 14 days.  i still havent gotten mine to eat rats.

    good luck!

  4. a human child, coming from previous experience.

  5. well try offering 3 or 4 adult mice and see if it will eat them, if so buy it some large mice

  6. I have two royal pythons and 2 mice should be fine for him. Mine are both adult and they still only eat large mice. Tried smaller rats and they are just not interested. Just think your self lucky that it is eating at all. One of mine went for a year without eating and nothing I did could tempt him. Eventually he just decided he was hungry again. Don' worry too much. As long as he is eating something he will be fine. You can feed them too much and all power feeding does is make them bigger, quicker and shorten their lifespan.

  7. try baby rats or call and ask a pet store but i used to feed mine rats from the pet store.

  8. Another good choice for Royals is to try them on Gerbils. Royals come from Angola and central africa, where Gerbils are wild animals, and the preferred prey type of the species. Ours wouldn't touch mice or rats, but when I tried him on a gerbil, it worked a treat.

Also bear in mind that Royals are notorious for going without food form months on end. Mine went 6 months between feeds with no ill effects whatever, and fasts of over 9 months are common. As long as your snake is in good health and has access to water this should not be a problem.
