  2. Bring a huge supply of small balloons.  Be the person who organizes the first water balloon fight outside your dorm on the first nice sunny warm weekend.

A couple of really weird conversation pieces can work wonders.  A bizarre poster, or a lava lamp.

    Camera.

A few simple tools .. screwdrivers, duct tape, a pair of pliers should do it.

Alarm clock.  Make it two, because you're going to smash the first one with your fist.

    Pair of binoculars.  Trust me.

  3. coffee cups, silver ware, glasses, plates, pens, clock,

  4. a bong

    Misc Tips from Experienced Parents:

Rolls of quarters for washing machines. More than a few parents said rolls of quarters were one way of helping do their children's wash without physically being there.

The cure-all: duct tape. It's not a joke. Students need it to tape down all those wayward cords, fix broken items and hang things.

Batteries. All sizes, and don't forget chargers. Most students forget that camera and calculator batteries die with lots of use, and there's not a go-to drawer filled with batteries like there is at home.

Flip-flops for those community showers. They forget too that college dorms can be welcoming venues for germs.

Flatware. At least one fork, knife and spoon are necessary - and often more if students tend to lose them. A box of plastic utensils is one suggestion.  How about a plastic bowl and plate & roll of paper towels.

Lighting such as flashlights and lamps.  Lighting in dorm rooms is notoriously poor.

Over-the-door storage units for shoes or extra hanging clothes or under-the-bed boxes. Dorm rooms are small. Need we say more?

  6. Let's see...gotta think back about a decade to what was really useful....

Assuming you will probably be sharing a bathroom with lots of other people, I would suggest bringing flip flops to wear (who knows what weird foot diseases people have) and a bathrobe.

TV, Iron, camera, basic sewing kit, basic first aid kit w/ aspirin, photos/pic frames of family/friends you will miss, extension cords, some basic cleaning stuff (disinfecting wipes, small vacuum), a few really basic tools (hammer, screwdrivers, etc.) definitely need silverware and some dishes too!

Optional but nice to have...dvd player w/movies for weekends, blender (if you are over 21)...

One friendly piece of advice...if you already have your class schedule, try to find out the books you will need as early as possible and order them on ebay...if you wait to get them in the bookstore, you will spend probably about 10x as much!  Best wishes!

  7. Definately bring something to hang on the walls.  If you don't, the room will look so bland and boring, and you'll HATE it!  Also, my daily planner controls my world.  If I didn't have it, I would be so lost.  I would recommend one to everyone.  You'll probably need some kind of shower caddy to carry around your toiletries.  You don't really want to leave them in the showers because eveyone will start using them.  I like having a tv and movie stuff in my room.  We have a tv in our common area, but its easier to have your own because then you don't have to fight over what you watch.  One of those contraptions that holds your book open is also really useful for when you're reading and typing at the same time.  I would suggest buying things once you get to college so you don't have to pack and move everything from your house :)
