  1. You won't be able to bring much of anything to the infield at Pimilico- because you won't be watching the race from there. Unlike Churchill Downs, Pimlico's paddock ( the place where horses are saddled prior to racing) is located in the infield- and that alone precludes this track from becoming a party place like Churchill Downs is. There is too much activity there to permit people to carry on and party the way they do at Churchill. Security in the infield is VERY tight, especially on Preakness Day, and it will be even more so this year. If you want to walk around the infield to look at the horses prior to the race, I would wear comfortable walking shoes, and dress for the weather, which I understand is going to be rather warm tomorrow. Wear a hat and take along your sunglasses and sunscreen. Otherwise, plan on sitting in the grandstand or standing along the rail during the races. By the way, you won't be sitting, walking, or watching the Belmont from that track's infield- the Belmont Park infield, like that of most major race tracks, is closed to the public most of the time. To access it, you need to make an appointment with the track office, and you need to have special credentials. This is true at virtually ALL of the major tracks, except for Pimlico, and of course, Churchill Downs, which has become very notorious as a party place and a place where a lot of inappropriate, offensive behavior takes place.

  2. The Preakness is the only one of the Triple Crown races I have not been too, so I cannot tell you from experience.  But I have been told by many people (including those who work for a certain tv station that covers the race) the parties in the infield there rival Churchill for the Derby, expecially the wet t shirt contest.  I'm sure the Pimlico website will give you more insight about what you can bring in, but I'm pretty sure it's pretty much whatever you want.  Have fun.

Here's a little article about the "party free" Pimlico infield.
