you know French people inverted perfume but they never said why, you can do with a hypnotic poison perfume or amarige by givenchy.

I think you should shop with the person in mind.

For some people a dress of scarf will be the best thing, for others a bit of pottery or a photo in a nice frame.

I have never seen anything in Paris that is not available in most of the rest of France, including miniature Eiffel towers, but you will see lots of things you have not seen in the shops at home.

Perfume will not be among those, as all brands are sold world wide nowadays.
