What should i choose for a college major????

okay so I'm a high school senior and i really want to be a photographer however my parents wont let me major in that they say its too risky or sumthin but i want to open my own studio one day...so what are some other ideas of what i can major in college for??? please help

Maybe you should major in business administration, graphic design or photojournalism and consider getting a minor in photography.

Business, so you can start your own photography studio, then get either a second degree in art or a minor in art

This is not your parents' decision.  It's your life, and you're reaching the point where they no longer make your decisions.  If majoring in photography is what you want to do, then you should.  You don't have to tell them.  Once you become eighteen, they cannot legally access your educational records, so they won't know what classes you're taking.  Besides, your first couple years, you mostly just take general education courses, anyway.

If you feel that you really need to put a different major down to accomodate your parents until you're out of their house, then choose something that will interest you.  Maybe art history?  Possibly physics or chemistry to better understand light and photographic processing?  What about business, since you want your own studio?  What will make you happy?

Besides, most people change their major at some point during their college years.  If you have to, put something down now, and you can change it later.  Or, just make yourself "undeclared" for now.  When you meet with your college advisor, you can explain the situation to him/her and get assistance planning a schedule to accomodate your interests.

Your parents need to understand and respect that you are entering adulthood and you are entitled to make decisions for yourself.  After all, it's your future, not theirs.
