A bar on my hamster cage came loose, and in the middle of the night my hamster escaped and slept underneath our electric fire. Luckily we did not use the fire, but now my hamster's fur is thick with sut. What should i do?

  1. Don't give her a bath as that can be dangerous but take a paper towel and wet it with water and gently wipe off the soot. If you have to, use VERY little soap and make sure to throughly wipe it off her coat. Since hamsters l**k themselves when grooming you want to be sure to get the soot off as soon as possible or she may ingest it.

  2. Well, i would say"Clean him up".  Use a wet rag or something, but I wouldn't use human soap.

  3. Try brushing her gently with a small comb until all the soot you can has flown out If there's still a lot, try gently wiping her with baby wipes. Just make sure that they don't have any fragrance, as that can irritate the hamster's skin. You can also put in her cage chinchilla sand (Make sure it is NOT chinchilla dust, as that can cause respiratory problems.). If she starts using it as a potty, change the chinchilla sand regularly. Above all, NEVER bathe a hamster. Before you know it, "bye-bye, little hammie!".

  4. try to use some wipes. whatever you do don't give him a bath. if you soak a hamster it will most likely die. they get colds easily and usually don't live.

  5. First you should take a towel or makeup brush and wipe off most of the soot off. then wet a paper towel and put it over its fur, the soot should be absorbed through the towel. then wipe with soap. i hope this helps

  6. Get some baby wipes and just wipe it off a little bit.  I think it'll take a bit but don't stress it out too much.  Just do a little at a time.  It'll get clean and clean itself some.

  7. Use wipes dipped in clean water to clean the hamster fur very gently. Then dry her out thoroughly with dry wipes. Do not leave any dampness on her fur, she can get sick.

Do not use wet wipes which have fragrance or alcohol content in them as it can irritate the skin of the hamster.

Do not give her a bath with soap as it will strip her off her natural oils in the skin and make her prone to skin infections.

Give her a dish of good quality chinchilla sand to roll on and clean herself.

If the soot still does not go, take her to your vet who can do a better job of cleaning her without harming her skin.
