My dad found this kitten while doing construction on a house and it's mom was dead..so i took her in but her eyes water alot and there filmy [like when you wake up in the morning and there's "sleep" in the corner of your eye] I've been cleaning it off daily but it always comes back within a few hours. She squints her eyes constantly, is there something wrong with her?

  1. It could be something, it could be nothing. The problem is that you won't know until you take your cat to the vet to be checked. All pets should have an initial checkup anyway.

One of my cats had an eye problem when he was 7 weeks old, right up to being 6 months. Now he is fine (at just over a year).

Get the jabs for him and ask about neutering if you haven't done already. They are very important things to do, will make your cat hopefully live longer, and wills top more cats being found on construction sites. All cats deserve caring owners who will take them to the vet when needed and get all jabs needed.

Best of luck, I hope he is ok.

  2. I'm guessing she hasn't had her shots--sounds like she has distemper.  Cats get colds and when left untreated they more often than not develope into something worse (if they haven't had their shots, especially).  I'm not a vet, but I have nine cats of my own plus I take the best care I can of about a gazillion others that were abandoned (and have been breeding) since this area of my town flooded last year and people lost/abandoned their cats.  While much was made of the efforts volunteers made to rescue trapped dogs, little was done for the cats.  So they all come to my house to eat and get love.

I can't afford to pay for shots for all these animals, so I'll tell you what I do and I haven't lost one yet.  Give your kitten 75 milligrams of amoxicillan or penicillan twice a day--once every twelve hours.  DON'T give her the chewable kid amoxil--it has too much potassium in it.  Find, beg, borrow, or steal some amoxil capsules or penicillan tabs.  Divide them up as best you can.  If you have 250 mil amoxil pills, for example, empty out the powder into a pile and divide it three ways.  If you get the 500 mil pills, divide them up into six little piles as equal as you can make them......and it won't do any harm if the dosage isn't exact and she gets a little more.  Do this for seven days.  If you put the powder into a small bit of raw hamburger you should have no trouble getting her to eat it--the powder is tasteless, but you want to make sure she gets the whole dose.  If you use penicillan tablets, grind them up and ditto with the hamburger.

As I said above, I am no vet, but I have treated cats this way with the amoxil/penicillan who were very near death from feline lukemia or distemper and they astounded me completely by snapping right back to full health (knock on wood). Get her on the antibiotics as soon as you can and she'll be fine.

Also--look around where you live for a feed store or such and you should be able to buy a kitten vaccination kit for around five or six bucks.  The vacs are all pre-measured and you can give them to her yourself.

  3. I would get it to the vet as it's always a good idea to her fully checked out.  Could be anything from an upper resp infection to conjunctivitis which can eventually blind the little thing.

    Good luck.

  4. yes, she either has conjunctivitis or a respiratory infection either way she needs antibiotics. my kitten had the same thing & it was a respiratory infection. take her to the vet

  5. I would take her to vets to be checked out. She probably has a upper respiratory infection or sinus infection or maybe just eye irritation or infection. Could be many things. But under the circumstances that she was  found in I would take her in for a check up anyway. Always better safe than sorry.
