i really would like to start taking my cat on vacations with cuz the boarding is getting expensive and she hates it there. she wants to be with me at all times. The only problem is she hates the car.She is 5 years old. The first time she cried so loud it prolly sounded like we were toutureing her. The second time she just sat there and barley moved. Seudading her is not an option. How can i get her to like the car? Also when i get her to like the car how should i transport her , in her cgae or should i let her roam? how would she use the bathroom. She is used to going outside cuz shes a outdoor cat. Last but not least i also need to leash train her i cant put her collar and leash on her but then she won't monve. She is a outdoor cat so shes always outside so its not like going outside is a treat or anything. any tips?

  1. Umm my cat loves the car ! as far as the bathroom goes just let her out of the car every once in a while so she can do her business. What's the matter with Tranquilizers ?! I give them to my cat all the time when we go on car trips! But if yur rly worried about ur cat in the car I\d just leave her at the pet Smart they have rly cheap accommodations

  2. I dunno about the car cause my cat yowls in it too. But instead of a collar try a harness. Work with your cat in your own home, putting it on her loosely and letting her play around the house in it till shes accustom.

I wouldn't take my pet out at a rest stop without a leash.... what if something scares her and she bolts into traffic right? or someone is walking their dog and it starts to chase her? It would take time but is worth the safty of your pet!

  3. If you have to take her in the car i wouldn't put her in the crate it might make her more nervous, just let her rome around thats what i do with my cat, but she seems to like the car ..

  4. It's not likely that your cat will ever like riding in a car as much as dogs do. Have you thought about leaving the cat at home and having a trusted friend or neighbor check on it and feed it every 1-2 days? It will be less stress on the cat than leaving it at the kennel or taking it with you. Cats like a routine and will not enjoy your trip or being taken out of their normal environment. However, it would be best to keep it inside while you are gone because cats tend to run away when their owners are away. You can confine it to a laundry room or a bathroom + hallway with a litter box and plenty of food/water.

  5. I wish there was an answer to this one!!!  :P

I adopted a 4 yr old cat and he always yowls in the car while in his carrier. It seems to make him quite anxious and I've only taken him to the vet. He cries and cries which makes me feel bad but it also never fails that he ends up doing #2 in his carrier!! UGH! I tried to let him out one time and he sat in my lap for about 5 minutes without issue then looked out the window. Of course he ended up doing #2 behind my seat and was about to pee until I grabbed him and threw him back in his carrier (much easier to clean!) I found out about FELIWAY spray, it mimics the feline pheromone in the facial glands and seems to help calm him down but the trick is using it prior to getting him in the car so it takes effect. Try it.

  6. lay out a few cat treats in your car and make sure shes comfy

    and has a litter box!

    good luck

you should probably put a small cat bed in there if the trips r long and let her roam the car

  7. My cat is the same way in the car, she doesn't meow, she SHRIEKS. It's awful, and always makes me feel like I'm a bad person for taking her anywhere...Anyways, if you're a person who travels a lot, and can't afford boarding, maybe you have a friend who could just come to your house everyday while you're gone to give your cat food and water? Cats do not travel well, taking her to different places all the time might stress her out too much, which could lead to other bad behaviors. It would probably be better for her to stay home, in a nice familiar place, even without you there taking care of her, she'd probably be happier that way. Or if you don't have a friend willing, you could always pay the neighbor a small fee, probably significantly less than a pet boarding house, to stop by and check the food and water. Also, why are you so against sedation? I'm a devoted cat-owner, and see no problem with sedating my cat, as long as I have proper dosage and instructions for administering the sedative from my vet. For some cats, it's the only way they can travel at all.

  8. I would bring her without her carrier and just put her in your car and let her roam around and get used to it. Keep her in there for about ten minutes a day untili you finally go somewhere.  You don't have to put her in a carrier when you are going on trips but you could keep your litter box in the back seat (although it would smell). or you could put it in the trunk and stop every 4 hours and put her in the litter box.  My friends cat does the same thing with the collar and the leash.  As soon as she puts it on he sits down and looks at you like he thinks your torturing him.  First, you have to get him used to the collar.  Let him play with it for a bit until he recognizes what it is.  Then let it hang around his neck without snapping it on.  Then when he gets really used to it, then you can put it around his neck and snap it on and hold the leash.  Good luck!

  9. Almost all cats hate car travel, and there's nothing you can really do about it. My cats both yowl if they're ever transported in the car. However, they do love sunbathing in it when it's not moving.
