  1. Save your money, and take your time.

As ridiculous as it sounds, I waited until I was 18 before I got my license. Not a car, but my license.

Not suggesting that you do the same, but by the time I got one, my parents were so eager to get me out of the house like my friends, that I didn't have a curfew, got whatever car I wanted, etc. And it gave me two years to practice driving, and to save up my money.

Let your friends go get a license at 16. See how quickly one of them gets into an accident, or the cheapo car they have to get, because they haven't saved up. Unless their parents get them a car....but there's no respect in that anyway.

A year won't kill you, and it gives you plenty of time to get a game plan together for when you are ready to drive. Cheaper too.
