Question:

What should i do about the skirting on my mobile home?

ok if the hurricane comes should i just put more screws in the skirting and hope for the best, but i don't think it stands a chance or just take it down and put it in safe place and put back on later? If i take it down would this effect the wind under the mobile cause i don't want the home to fly away.. any i deas??

  1. I would not take it down or put more screws in it as you need to get under there sometime.  It is your tie downs that are most important.  In Florida they must be checked and o.k.


  2. Well... skirting isn't going to prevent hurricane winds from getting under a mobile home.

    Even with the home properly anchored, winds from a tornado or hurricane can be of sufficient strength to demolish a mobile home... or site built homes for that matter.

    Taking it down and storing it may prevent it from blowing away...but it won't affect the stability of the home either way.

    Vinyl skirting is made to slide up behind the top channel of trim.  IF you use any screws to hold the pieces in place, you may find them bowing, at a later date, due to expansion/contraction as the temperature changes, or due to frost heave of the ground, if the skirting is not placed over a concrete slab.

    You may want to consider putting your time towards gathering important documents, cherished items, etc together, and put them in a safe place.
