So we are having our first and we dicided that for the first baby we dont want to know the s*x, so we have names for both sexes ready, 2 names for each s*x so when the baby comes out, we can see which one fits the best.

However, we are having a problem with the Harlow sitiation:

We decided we would name the boy Harlow Isaiah after my Grandfather who passed 3 years ago, no one in the family had this name. But i was told my my sister in law that a celebrity baby is named this??? Should that effect how i name the baby, even if i planned this name since i was a little girl ( i even named my teddy bear after my grandpa) My grandpa was an extroardinary man, and i already told my grandma about the name choice and she cried, then someone came along and burst my bubble...is it rediculous to care? Will people really remember in a year or so if this celebrities baby is named harlow?

  1. Like how extraordinary is he?

  2. If you were using it just because you saw Nicole Ritchie use it and thought it was cute, I'd advise you not to.

But since the name has significant meaning and value to you (not to mention Harlow is MUCH nicer on a boy since it's a masculine name in the first place :]), you shouldn't let the celebrity baby get to you.

Honoring your grandfather is a wonderful thing and you obviously have your heart set on it. Don't let some "celebrity" (I don't actually consider Nicole Ritchie a celebrity though, she didn't do anything) change your mind. You'll never meet her and you'll never see her baby.

There are ton's of Isabella's, Stella's, Vivienne's, and Violet's out there that share their name with celeb babies. You'll be fine. No one will remember in a few years.

  3. It doesn't matter if a celebrity named their child Harlow! I would go for it. It has a special meaning for your child to have that name!

  4. You shouldn't worry about the celebrity. They named their baby after a well known person - Jean Harlow. They were paying tribute to someone, just as you're paying tribute to your Grandfather. I'm curious as to whether or not the person who told you this information might've considered using the name for their own child when or if they had one and didn't want you using it? Either way, disregard the celebritiy comment, if the name has sentimental value to you, then use it.

  5. I know that not so many people could readily identify the celebrity who named their child Harlow (including me).  Plus, it shouldn't matter.  There are probably plenty of famous people out there who are named or have children with the names of my children...Julia and Ethan (Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke...) and I don't care.  I liked the names.  If you like it and it means something to you...do it.  Not naming a child something you really want because someone else has that name is kinda silly when you think about it.

  6. I say go for it and name your baby Harlow after grandfather. That means more than anything someone thinks.

  7. Go for it! Your child will have a way better meaning than the celebrity! Its a very strong name too!

  8. Nicole Richie I believe named her Kid Harlow, but don't worry about it! If you want to name him after your grandfater, go right ahead! It holds puprose to you!

  9. name him what you want.  His name will carry a meaning that he can be proud of in the future.  A celebrity probably just named their child that because it was different.  You have chosen it because your grandfather was very special, and you want that carried on in generations to come!  Go for it!

  10. I think I'd just go with Harlow.

Nicole Richie used it for her daughter, but she's not really that big of a celebrity. Don't get me wrong, I love her and I honestly love the name Harlow, but I think in a few years people won't even remember her.
