In June of this year I rear ended a 2000 Nissan Maxima with my 1998 VW Jetta. I did not have insurance at the time. The person had Pemco Insurance, and her insurance covered the repair. I received a letter yesterday from Pemco stating that i owed $9,400.00, and If i don't pay up the state of Washington will cancel my license. I am 17, if It has any affect, but I am wondering what I should do.

  1. Call Pemco and set up an interest free payment plan. If you don't - they can and will have your drivers licenses suspended by the state.  There are consequences to driving around with out insurance.

As long as you make your payments -on time- every month - they usually do not pursue further action. Miss payments....and they will pursue it.

The only other thing you can do is to see if they are willing to accept a lump sum lesser payment. If they are looking for 9500  - they may take a lesser amount (75000-8000) just to avoid the cost of having to monitor your payments.  Of course, you have to be able to pay the lump sum amount with in the time frame given.

  2. Your under age, so they should be approaching your parents.

This is a subrogation (collection) department of the other persons insurance wanting their money back for what they paid out.  Your parents are liable and owe it, unfortunately.

  3. you need to give this to your parents so that they can pay it off.

  4. Great design, resourceful information,user-friendly layout should be a good place to answer your questions.http://car-insurance.easyideas4u.info/ca...

  5. you have to pay it.  if you cannot afford to pay it all at once, call the company and talk to them.  some will set up payments for you to repay.  you were at fault and drove with no insurance, you are LEGALLY liable to repay.  if you do not, they will take your license and send you to collections, and possibly sue you to get there money back.  don't just ignore it.

  6. I'm guessing you can't pay so maybe talk to the person. Also, I think you may be considered a minor so maybe this is illegal? Not sure.
