Cops have computers in their cars now and they are hooked up to the DMV. The DMV knows if you have insurance or not. So believe me, if you get stopped, they already know if you have insurance. Usually, if you don't have the proof on you, you get like a fix-it ticket. You get so many days, probably anywhere from 10 - 30 to mail a copy of it to the court. That's it.
