  1. Why not take some boxing classes, it can only help, you're a skiiled MT practitioner so you know that there is no harm in learning more.

  2. Sounds like a good idea. Boxing classes will probably help ALOT with your boxing. Since they practice--y'know-- boxing..in boxing classes. ;-)

  3. DEFINITELY take up boxing.  Try to find a trainer who can specialize the boxing skills for Muay Thai.

Many MT fighters are much better at kicking...actually, the more westernized boxers are actually boxing more...but, regardless, your hands are generally quicker than your legs.  Until you get to an elite level - maybe.

Using boxing skills can help you in the clinch. Your knees are more powerful, but definitely further range from the head.  With the right hands, you can have more explosive power from the top part of your body..it might even help with your elbow strikes.

If you overwhelm most kickboxers with hand combos, they rarely get their legs going. And, that way, your strongest weapon (legs) can become your secondary weapon...and your hands won't fare too bad their selves.

Just make sure you get comfortable with closing the distance.  That's alright though, it'll teach you how to deal with taller opponents.  You'll definitely be a lot more comfortable on the inside.

  4. well if you know any other martial arts like say karate, then apply what you learn about how to punch in karate to muay thai... that might make up for boxing....

  5. No harm in cross training...GO FOR IT!  Good Luck.

  6. neh, if it's muay thai match only, stick with thai only. Your trainers know  the form well and it's that way because it's been improved over centuries and for a very specific scenario. Don't be quick to think boxers, who don't have worry about calf kicks and knees from clinch, will give the insight you need for victory. Yes, they do fight with a different form and method but for a very different scenario and boxing too has been perfected over a course of many years but mainly for the purpose of fighting in the ring against another boxer.

If it's not MMA, let the boxers box and the kickboxers kickbox.

  7. try it, it won't hurt.

  8. boxing will help but i think you should stick with thai for now and train harder and more often,if you need to work on your hands your kru would know this and be working on your hands.wait until youve had your fight before you consider training in something else.
