After cutting down a dead pine tree i found termites in the stump. Should i be worried about termites infesting my house, and call an exterminator or inspector? Will the termites migrate to different trees?

Thank You for you time

  1. well for peace of mind you may have the home inspected, but where you found them is common for them to be...an acre of land in most of the US has 7-14 established colonies, so it would be more of a surprise not to find them in places through out the yard

  2. you probably don't have to worry too much about your house unless the stump is right next to it.  There is a powder you can get from Home Depot or Lowe's that is meant for termites.  If i were you, i would let the termites take care of the stump for you and just spread the powder around the stump area to keep them from "migrating".  Termites usually like trees that are older and rotten or diseased, so there is a possibility that they can spread but if you do the powder trick, it should take care of the problem. hope this helps.

  3. Let em eat the stump! Maybe they'll leave your house alone.
