  1. I think you will find AVG Free 8.0 is working OK again - I've just managed to download the update without any problems, so it looks like it has been fixed.

As well as mentioning the problem, the AVG forum is now also saying that it has been solved -

UPDATE .BIN error information... Aug 16th 2008

Currently the update for AVG Free v8 is corrupted... you will have to wait for AVG Technologies to address the issue with the update.

Reporting the issue again by other users here will not do any good util it is resolved.

The updates that your AVG currently have will still provide the protection it is setup to detect. In otherwords, not being able to get this update will not make your AVG Free ineffective and as soon as AVG Tech resolves the issue you will be able to update to the current virus definitions at that time.

So in short... please do not post to report the issue, its already known. Also please be patient until AVG Technologies can address the issue.

Also... for those user that did report the issue... thanks for the info.

I think you will now find that the issue has been corrected as I have just been able to update my AVGFree8

Latest update 17/08/08 Database version 270.6.4/1616

  2. I am having the same problem, everyone that is using AVG is also having the exact same problem, it is a bug that AVG is going thru and hopefully will be fix tomorrow or later this week.

    Good Luck.

  3. This is a known issue with AVG.  They are working on it, but there is a fix that alot of folks are using

    1) go to »www.grisoft.com/ww.download-update

    2) make a directory on your desktop called AVG

    3) download AVI: 270.6.4

    4) download IAVI: / 1616

    5) move the dowloaded files to the directory you made called AVG

    6) launch AVG

    7) select tools -> update from directory

    8) select the directory called AVG where you put the downloads

  4. Hey,

Don't worry about anything, I just have the same problem. All AVG users are. It's just kind of like a bug, or the update is missing some files. The best recommended thing I suggest you should do is nothing. You might mess up AVG, and waste your time. They will probably update this soon. Your Antivirus and Spyware protection and all those stuff will still be working properly, so you shouldn't worry. The bad thing is you will have the ! on your grayish AVG icon. If you do not trust me you can search 'bin file missing' on Yahoo! Answers. You can see a list of questions exactly like yours posted somewhere 6 hrs, 7 hrs, 5 hrs ago, or somewhere today. It is just a false update made by grisoft. Just be patient and it'll be updated, and everything will be working properly again.

    Good Luck!

    Kevin

    Don't worry!

  5. Problem solved, it is working now. I have just gone to update & the problem has been resolved.

I didn't do anything bar wait patiently for AVG to sort their prob out. So don't worry about uninstall/reinstalling & wasting download space etc. ;-P
